Maftir
The Maftir repeats the last verses of the Seventh Portion. Bechukotai is read on its own only in a leap year; in other years Behar and Bechukotai are read together on one Shabbat, the reading runs from Leviticus 25:1 to 27:34, and this Maftir and haftarah are read. Bechukotai never falls on a special Shabbat. It is the last parsha of Leviticus, and at its close the congregation says Chazak, chazak, venitchazek — “Be strong, be strong, and let us be strengthened.”
27:32And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatever passes under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto Hashem.

Haftarah
Bechukotai sets out the blessing for keeping the covenant and the curse for breaking it (26:3, 26:14). The haftarah sets the same choice before each man: “Cursed is the man that trusts in man … Blessed is the man that trusts in Hashem” (17:5, 17:7), and ends with the prayer “Heal me, O Hashem, and I shall be healed” (17:14). Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities read the same verses, both when Bechukotai is read on its own and when it is read together with Behar.
16:19O Hashem, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations shall come unto You from the ends of the earth, and shall say, “Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit.

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), as published on Chabad.org. Every verse was checked character by character against Chabad’s Tanakh. Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has,” “begat” to “begot”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time (e.g., Moshe (Moses)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged. Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible.
- Transliteration
- Produced from the Hebrew with the open-source hebrew-transliteration library, adapted to Sephardic/Israeli pronunciation and reviewed by hand: ḥ for Chet and Chaf, tz for Tzadi, k for Kuf, and the Divine Name read “Adonai.” Names are capitalized.
- Aliyot & haftarot
- Portion divisions and haftarah readings follow the standard Jewish calendar outside Israel, cross-checked with Chabad.org and Hebcal. Ashkenazi and Sephardic haftarah customs are both shown.
- Hebrew font
- SBL Hebrew, by the Society of Biblical Literature.
