The Maftir repeats the last verses of the Seventh Portion. Behar is read on its own only in a leap year; in other years Behar and Bechukotai are read together on one Shabbat, the reading runs from Leviticus 25:1 to 27:34, and the Maftir and haftarah of Bechukotai are read. Behar never falls on a special Shabbat.

Haftarah
Behar gives the law of redemption: a kinsman may buy back a field that his brother sold (25:25). In the haftarah, with Yerushalayim under siege and Yirmeyahu in the court of the guard, his cousin Chanamel comes to him with the words of that law, “for the right of redemption is yours to buy it” (32:7). Yirmeyahu buys the field as a sign that “houses and fields and vineyards shall be bought again in this land” (32:15). Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities read the same verses. When Behar and Bechukotai are read together, the haftarah of Bechukotai (Jeremiah 16:19–17:14) is read.
32:6And Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) said, “The word of Hashem came unto me, saying,
Vayomer Yirmeyahu hayah devar-Adonai elay lemor.
ווַיֹּ֖אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ הָיָ֥ה דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃
32:7‘Behold, Chanamel (Hanameel) the son of Shallum your uncle shall come unto you, saying, Buy my field that is in Anatot (Anathoth); for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.’
Hineh Ḥanam'el ben-Shalum dodḥa ba eleḥa lemor keneh leḥa et-sadi asher ba'Anatot ki leḥa mishpat hage'ulah liknot.

32:8So Chanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to the word of Hashem, and said unto me, ‘Buy my field, I pray you, that is in Anatot, which is in the country of Binyamin (Benjamin); for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of Hashem.

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), as published on Chabad.org. Every verse was checked character by character against Chabad’s Tanakh. Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has,” “begat” to “begot”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time (e.g., Moshe (Moses)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged. Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible.
- Transliteration
- Produced from the Hebrew with the open-source hebrew-transliteration library, adapted to Sephardic/Israeli pronunciation and reviewed by hand: ḥ for Chet and Chaf, tz for Tzadi, k for Kuf, and the Divine Name read “Adonai.” Names are capitalized.
- Aliyot & haftarot
- Portion divisions and haftarah readings follow the standard Jewish calendar outside Israel, cross-checked with Chabad.org and Hebcal. Ashkenazi and Sephardic haftarah customs are both shown.
- Hebrew font
- SBL Hebrew, by the Society of Biblical Literature.
