Haftarah
Hashem tells Moshe to consecrate the altar for seven days, “and it shall be an altar most holy” (Exodus 29:37). In the haftarah the prophet Yechezkel (Ezekiel) is shown the altar of the house that is to come, and is told that for seven days “shall they purge the altar and purify it” (43:26), and then Hashem says, “I will accept you” (43:27).
43:10“You son of man, show the house to the house of Yisrael, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.

Maftir: Shabbat Zachor
Shabbat Zachor is the Shabbat before Purim, and in most years it is Shabbat Tetzaveh. A second Torah scroll is taken out for this Maftir: the command to remember what Amalek did to Yisrael on the way out of Mitzrayim. Many read the word for “remembrance” in verse 19 twice, as zecher and as zeicher.
25:17Remember what Amalek did unto you by the way, when you came forth out of Mitzrayim;
Zaḥor et asher-asah leḥa Amalek badereḥ betzeteḥem miMitzrayim.
יזזָכ֕וֹר אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂ֥ה לְךָ֖ עֲמָלֵ֑ק בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ בְּצֵֽאתְכֶ֥ם מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃

25:19Therefore it shall be, when Hashem your God has given you rest from all your enemies round about, in the land which Hashem your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget it.

Haftarah: Shabbat Zachor
Read on Shabbat Zachor instead of Ezekiel 43. Ashkenazi communities, Chabad among them, begin at 1 Samuel 15:2; Sephardic communities begin at 15:1. Shmuel tells Sha’ul to destroy Amalek, but Sha’ul spares Agag the king of Amalek (15:8–9). Haman, the enemy of the Jews in the Purim story, is called “the Agagite” (Esther 3:1).
15:1And Shmuel (Samuel) said unto Sha’ul (Saul), “Hashem sent me to anoint you to be king over His people, over Yisrael; now therefore hearken unto the voice of the words of Hashem.
Vayomer Shemu'el el-Sha'ul oti shalaḥ Adonai limshaḥaḥa lemeleḥ al-amo al-Yisra'el ve'atah shema lekol divrei Adonai.

Sources & method
- Hebrew text
- The Masoretic text with vowels (nikkud) and cantillation marks (ta’amim), as published on Chabad.org. Every verse was checked character by character against Chabad’s Tanakh. Where the written text (ketiv) differs from the reading (qere), the reading is shown and the written form follows in small type.
- English translation
- The King James Version (public domain), lightly modernized by Benei Avraham: “thee/thou/ye” become “you,” older verb forms are updated (“hath” to “has,” “begat” to “begot”), and archaic words are replaced only where the meaning would otherwise be unclear. People and places carry their Hebrew names, with the familiar English name in parentheses the first time (e.g., Moshe (Moses)). The Divine Name (יהוה, “the LORD” in the KJV) is written “Hashem”; “God” (Elohim) is unchanged. Verse numbers follow the Hebrew Bible.
- Transliteration
- Produced from the Hebrew with the open-source hebrew-transliteration library, adapted to Sephardic/Israeli pronunciation and reviewed by hand: ḥ for Chet and Chaf, tz for Tzadi, k for Kuf, and the Divine Name read “Adonai.” Names are capitalized.
- Aliyot & haftarot
- Portion divisions and haftarah readings follow the standard Jewish calendar outside Israel, cross-checked with Chabad.org and Hebcal. Ashkenazi and Sephardic haftarah customs are both shown.
